Rodent control for barns

Barns and feed rooms that stay closed to rodents

A barn has food, shelter and heat, which is why rodents like it. We seal around the pens, not in them, and plan the work around your calving, lambing and feeding.

Signs

What we look for

  • Gnawed feed bags

Torn corners, spilled feed and chewed bin lids.

  • Runways along the wall

Smooth, greasy trails at the base of walls and behind stored gear.

  • Nests in bedding or insulation

Shredded material in corners, loft edges and behind boards.

What we do

Four steps

  1. Step 1: Walk every building

Doors, vents, base, eave, loft and every place a line goes through the wall.

  2. Step 2: Write the plan

Each opening listed, with what will close it and in what order.

  3. Step 3: Seal around the animals

On a morning when the part of the barn we need is empty. Nobody moves a cow.

  4. Step 4: Check back

A follow-up visit, then a look each fall and spring if you want one.

Before and after

What you do, and what we do

  • Before the visit

    • Tell us which pens are in use and when

    • Keep animals clear of the area we're in

    • Put loose feed in lidded bins if you can

  • After the work

    • Keep feed off the floor and bags on pallets

    • Close doors behind the truck

    • Text us a note if you see fresh gnawing

Questions

Questions about barns and feed rooms

Can you work around calving and harvest?

Yes. Tell us which weeks are not good and we plan around them. Sealing a barn can often be done in a morning, in the part of the barn that is empty that day.

Is it safe for livestock and pets?

We can't say any treatment is safe, and nobody can. Licensed applicators follow the product label. We seal first, so most farms need little or no bait. Where we do place bait, it goes in locked stations, and we show you where each one is and which doors to keep animals away from. Ask for our product list any time.

How much does rodent control on a farm cost?

It depends on how many buildings there are, how old they are and how many openings we find. We walk the farmstead first and give you a written number before any work starts. What goes into it is on the How pricing works page.

What if rodents come back?

If rodents return through an opening we sealed, we come back and re-seal it at no charge for 12 months from the date of the work. That doesn't cover new gaps, damage from machinery or weather after the work, or buildings we weren't asked to seal. The terms are written on your estimate.
