Rodent control for the house and shop

The farmhouse and the shop, so they don't move in

When the barn and the bins are sealed, rodents look for the next warm place. The farmhouse, the shop and the sheds are where they end up, so we walk them last and write them into the same plan.

Signs

What we look for

  • Noises in the walls or ceiling

Scratching at night, usually along a wall or above the kitchen.

  • Droppings in drawers or the pantry

Along the back of cupboards and in the basement.

  • Chewed wiring in the shop

A harness, a tractor seat or the insulation on a line.

What we do

Four steps

  1. Step 1: Walk the house

Foundation, garage, crawlspace access and every pipe and wire that enters.

  2. Step 2: Write the plan

The same written plan as the barn, one line per opening.

  3. Step 3: Seal, then trap

Steel mesh and sheet metal first, and traps or locked stations only where the walk shows a need.

  4. Step 4: Check back

A follow-up visit, with a note of anything still getting in.

Before and after

What you do, and what we do

  • Before the visit

    • Clear the area under sinks and by the furnace

    • Tell us where you've heard or seen them

    • Keep pets in another room during the visit

  • After the work

    • Store food in lidded containers

    • Keep firewood and stacked material off the walls

    • Call if you hear them again

Questions

Questions about house and shop

Is it safe for livestock and pets?

We can't say any treatment is safe, and nobody can. Licensed applicators follow the product label. We seal first, so most farms need little or no bait. Where we do place bait, it goes in locked stations, and we show you where each one is and which doors to keep animals away from. Ask for our product list any time.

How much does rodent control on a farm cost?

It depends on how many buildings there are, how old they are and how many openings we find. We walk the farmstead first and give you a written number before any work starts. What goes into it is on the How pricing works page.

What if rodents come back?

If rodents return through an opening we sealed, we come back and re-seal it at no charge for 12 months from the date of the work. That doesn't cover new gaps, damage from machinery or weather after the work, or buildings we weren't asked to seal. The terms are written on your estimate.

Do you treat insects in the grain, birds or termites?

No. Rodents are what we do, and the pests that come with the feed and the buildings. Stored-grain insects, fumigation, birds and termites are different work and often a different license. We'll tell you who to call.
